Origin Story & Inspiration
How Drone Zoe Started
Drone Zoe began with a simple but powerful vision: What if Haitians controlled the technology that serves Haiti?
The platform was created to empower Haitians, particularly those in the diaspora, to finance and invest in drones as critical infrastructure for Haiti. Drones are an emerging technology seeing exponential growth worldwide, with applications spanning agriculture, logistics, security, disaster response, healthcare delivery, and environmental monitoring.
However, Haiti's underdeveloped tech sector leaves the country vulnerable to foreign corporations dominating the entire drone ecosystem—from production and operation to maintenance and data control.
The Challenge We Address
This vulnerability became clear while observing how international NGOs and private companies would deploy drone technology in Haiti, extract valuable data and insights, without transferring knowledge or capabilities to local communities.
This pattern—where Haiti serves as a testing ground for others' innovations while remaining technologically dependent—represents exactly the kind of foreign capture that threatens Haiti's sovereignty in emerging tech sectors.
Our Opportunity
Drone Zoe emerged from recognizing that drones represent one of the most democratizing technologies of our time. Unlike traditional industrial equipment, drones can be largely 3D printed, assembled locally, and operated by community members with proper training.
This creates an unprecedented opportunity for technological sovereignty—ensuring that Haitians, not external entities, control the technology, data, and economic opportunities that drones bring to Haiti.
Bridging Diaspora & Local Communities
For the diaspora, Drone Zoe offers a unique opportunity to invest in a productive and impactful initiative that directly contributes to Haiti's development. By channeling their resources into drone infrastructure, diaspora members can help create a sustainable ecosystem that generates economic opportunities, strengthens local capacity, and fosters innovation.
For Haitians living in Haiti, Drone Zoe provides access to the technology they need to address critical challenges in their daily lives. Drones can enhance security, improve logistics, and promote peace by empowering communities with tools to monitor and protect their environments.
The Name "Drone Zoe"
"Drone Zoe" symbolizes technology that is alive with community spirit—drones that don't just fly over Haiti, but are truly of Haiti. Each drone becomes an extension of the community's collective will, carrying the aspirations, needs, and intelligence of the people it serves.
The name reflects our belief that technology will be the backbone of community life rather than an external tool imposed from outside. When Haitians say "Drone Zoe," they're claiming ownership not just of the physical aircraft, but of the technological capability itself.

Why This Matters Globally
In an era of increasing technological concentration among a few multinational corporations, Drone Zoe demonstrates that communities can own and control advanced technology.
Our Success in Haiti Will Prove:
- ✓Local manufacturing can compete with global supply chains
- ✓Democratic governance can manage complex technology systems
- ✓Community ownership creates more sustainable outcomes
- ✓Open-source development accelerates innovation while building local capacity
This Model Challenges the Assumption That:
- ✗Cutting-edge innovation requires massive capital investment
- ✗Advanced technology must be centrally controlled
- ✗Developing countries can only be technology consumers
- ✗Complex systems require corporate hierarchies to function
A New Paradigm for Technology Cooperation
Drone Zoe isn't just about drones—it's about proving that technology can be democratized, that innovation can be community-driven, and that economic development can prioritize people over profits. Our success will inspire communities worldwide to claim ownership over the technologies that shape their futures.
